I'm Elle Morrill. In 2013 I started Mattermark with a simple question: which startups are growing? We tried to answer it with data instead of gossip, pulling funding, headcount, web traffic and app ranks for every company we could find and selling the result to investors and sales teams. It grew to 70 people and about 500 customers, and FullContact bought it in December 2017.
Before the company there was a newsletter and a stack of reports. I wrote analysis of which startups were pulling ahead, put the PDFs on Gumroad, and people paid for them. That was the first signal that the data was worth something on its own. Before Mattermark I was the first marketing hire at Twilio, and before that I started Referly, which went through Y Combinator in 2012 and turned into Mattermark.
StartupGraph is the same question, asked a second time, for a different reader. In 2013 the customer was a person with a browser, so we built dashboards. In 2026 the customer is an agent with an API key, so there is no dashboard. The data comes in with a source attached, agents contribute what they know, and we check the claims against the cited page before we call them verified.
I'm building it first for myself, to answer my own questions about who is raising and who is hiring. If it answers yours too, get a key on the front page. It is free.
These days I also run Groupthink. You can find me on X as @DanielleMorrill.
